2026 Ram 1500 vs. 2025 Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 has long been known as a remarkable combination of capability and comfort in a full-size pickup. The 2025 Ram 1500 saw the retirement of the HEMI® V8 engine and the introduction of Ram Hurricane V6 engines in two different levels of output. The coming new 2026 Ram 1500 is expected to build on those changes, keeping the same V6 engine options, while introducing a new Ram 1500 Ramcharger with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, and it should arrive in the third quarter of 2025.

Here's a comparison so you can see what we have available with 2025 Ram 1500 pickups in our new inventory at Honesdale Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Honesdale, PA as well as the coming 2026 Ram 1500.

A comparison of powertrains

After Ram discontinued the HEMI® V8engine in the 2025 model year, it was the start of a new six-cylinder moment in Ram history. The 2025 Ram 1500 models we have on our lot are based on the Hurricane 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbo platforms in two states of tune. In the Tradesman, Bighorn and Rebel models, the output is 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the 2025 Longhorn, Limited, Tungsten and RHO models have a higher-output variation with 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque. Across the lineup, you'll be rolling with an eight-speed automatic and your choice of rear- or all-wheel drive.

For the 2026 model year, Ram will unveil an additional powertrain in the form of the newly available Ramcharger, a plug-in hybrid comprised of a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine along with a battery that powers two electric motors. Together, the combination generates an incredible 647 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque, all delivered to a standard four-wheel drive system. A comparison of performance

The gas-powered 2025 Ram 1500 Limited Crew Cab 4x4, powered by a 540-horsepower Hurricane engine, can take you from zero to 60 mph in a scorching 4.2 seconds. 2025 Ram 1500 pickups are available right now in our new Ram truck inventory. The coming 2026 Ramcharger 1500, even with its 647-horsepower system, is a little slower, taking 4.5 seconds to reach the same milestone. The reason is because the heavy battery adds more than 1200 pounds of curb weight. So if you want pure speed, the gas-powered Ram 1500 for both 2025 and 2026 wins the race.

A comparison of driving range

The coming 2026 Ramcharger 1500 plug-in hybrid provides a total range of 690 miles, which could be very appealing for drivers in rural areas. Fortunately, the gas-powered 2025 and 2026 Ram 1500 offers an available 36-gallon tank and with the high-output 4x4 version, total range stretches to a very impressive 612 miles. If you go with the smaller 26-gallon tank, the range comes in at 442 miles, which is still more than the average gas-powered model and much more than most electrics. More good news: The gas-powered Ram 1500 doesn't have a battery so you don't have to worry about recharging.

A comparison of towing and hauling capability

The gas-powered Ram 1500 for both 2025 and 2026 provides a towing capacity max of 11,580 pounds along with up to 2300 pounds of payload. If you want to wait for the coming 2026 Ramcharger, the maximum towing capacity will reach 14,000 pounds and the maximum payload will be 2625 pounds. So if towing and hauling are your top priorities, the Ramcharger for 2026 might be worth waiting for. If you'd like to consider other options, shop our 2023 closeout inventory.

A comparison of pricing and availability

The 2025 Ram 1500 has a starting price of around $42,300 for the Tradesman, elevates to about $77,200 for the Limited and tops out at around $89,200 for the Tungsten. Pricing for the Ramcharger hasn't yet been announced, but it's estimated to start at around $60,000. Meanwhile, loaded 2026 Ramcharger trims could cost more than $100,000.
